Channel Marketing

Microsoft Office Online: Develop and execute a channel strategy

There have been a number of positions posted recently for a Channel Marketing Manager/Specialist and for Managers/Directors/Associates, etc that will be "experts on the unique needs of the channel". I cannot recall, from my prior job searches in recent years, to channel marketing references. So I was feeling a little out of it after reading a number of position descriptions and not really knowing a complete definition of channel marketing.

So, doing what I usually do when I don't know an answer to a question, I began researching the answer. Unfortunately my Marketing 101 textbook didn't have a definition. Nor did the AMA, MarketingProfs or MarketingTerms.com websites. I did general web searches and really came up with little. I was wondering where the term came from and wondering why I couldn't find a definition. But low and behold. . . while updating Microsoft Office today, I found a great article on channel strategy/marketing.

OK, I was just writing about "A Future Without Microsoft", but I want to go on the record as saying that Microsoft has some very good characteristics--one of them being they have great online resource articles and templates for marketers, as well as other professionals! But. . . I still think that some strong competition will push the bar even higher and result in much better products for consumers.

Anyway. . . thank you Microsoft!
